FAQs

What should I include in my application?

We would like to know about you, your practice, your interests and what you would like to do at the summer school.  Keep if brief and honest, there are no right or wrong answers.  We are looking for people who are creative, critical and prepared, and workshops that engage with the working title Thinkers Builders Dwellers in some way.

Can we apply as a group/pair?

Yes. Please make your application together, give details of everyone in your group/pair and provide the name and contact information of one person in your group/pair.

Will there be time for me to make my work?

Yes. Lots of it.  Workshops and talks will be scheduled mostly in the afternoon as mornings tend to be the time when residents want spend time on their work, or to collaborate with others.  All workshops are optional, but the summer school is structured around collective attendance and shared engagement.

What if I don’t feel I can offer or lead a workshop?

No problem, just let us know in the About your workshop section of the online form.  We encourage you to share your experiences and knowledge, but there is no obligation to perform.  The summer school would love to hear about your practice or recent projects you have participated in, perhaps you have a film you’d like to screen?  Or you could develop a workshop or presentation during the summer school, it’s all up to you.

When will I find out if I have a place?

We will let you know as soon as we can after you have sent us your proposal.

How many places are there?

We can accommodate up to 25 residents at any one time.  We encourage people to stay for the whole two weeks, but if you can only attend the first or second week, let us know when you apply.

How much does it cost to attend?

£210 for the whole summer school, £105 for one week or £15 per day (per person).  This covers three meals a day (you will eat like a king), energy required to run the site, hires the nearby bunk barn as accommodation, buys and/or repairs necessary tools for workshops such as axes and scythes and contributes towards the fuel and administration costs required in preparing for the summer school. There are no tuition fees, hidden costs or profits.

Is there funding/discounts available to artists?

No, unfortunately not, but we have tried to make it as affordable as possible.  You are of course welcome to source funding for your own work/costs.
